This morning, I made a sarcastic comment to likespacegandalf to the effect that if the trolls took this opportunity to start hating on asexuals about the grossly inappropriate Holocaust post, I would laugh and laugh and laugh. At the time that I left for work this morning, the original post had been deleted, and so to see it you also had to see at least one asexual calling out the original post for being out of line. See, the only two people who reblogged the original post? Were the two of us. Everything else is reblogs, mostly reblogs of me, an asexual woman, saying “wow, this is not okay.” 

But obviously the original poster spoke for all asexuals, guys. Even assuming that person wasn’t a troll to start with, which frankly I am suspicious of, the fact that these people are choosing to only listen to one possibly trolling asexual-identified person’s hideously inappropriate comment and ignore the nine asexual-identified people who spoke up and said immediately that this comment was not okay, three of whom did so before anyone who was not publicly identified as asexual on their tumblr commented. Two of us, as mentioned, were the only people to directly reblog and comment on the original post. 

I am so, so motherfucking angry today I could spit. 

We are damned if we speak up—now I am beginning to see the accusations from these asshats that this discussion is derailing from the “original conversation” about the death of the last survivor of the Holocaust to be targeted for his sexuality. (Never mind the fact that this entire particular thread has been about asexuality from the start.) Apparently standing up to defend ourselves from another fucking wave of hatred is not allowed!

We are damned if we don’t speak up—does anyone seriously think that if all the asexuals had ignored the troll, it wouldn’t have been held up as “LOOK SEE HOW HORRIBLE THESE ASEXUAL PEOPLE ARE”? And in fact speaking up for anyone else wins us nothing but more hatred, because apparently even seeing the original poster in no other context but an asexual woman saying it was out of line is not enough to prevent these people from shouting that we agree with it. 

And in fact we are being called out both for not speaking out about this comment and for speaking out about this comment in the same comment thread. There is no winning. 

I am suffused with contempt, both for the original post and for every. fucking. person who has taken this opportunity to assume that all asexual people—or even, frankly, any asexual people—agree with the sentiments of the original poster. 

The Dreamwidth community in the works cannot come fast enough. At least then we can have our fucking spaces to ourselves.
