Oh yeah, so would I! Although if I had any ability to do so (i.e., money, somewhere to stay and no active quarantine) I would try to flee into rural areas if something similar hit Austin. That’s usually the best strategy if you can afford it in the case of a city getting hit by something nasty.
I’m just fascinated by questions of epidemiology and disease management. It’s probably what I would be doing if I didn’t love other areas of biology (specifically, evolutionary biology impacting behavior) more. Well, and also because I like the culture of ecology/evolution way more than what I’ve seen of the culture of infectious disease, but that’s mostly a happy bonus. :)
