Asexuality Challenge: Day Fourteen!
Whoops, it’s been four days. My bad.
14. Tell us about a time you met another asexual, whether in real life or online.
That’d be Sciatrix. She was the first ace I met and oh. It was great.
Okay, so I met her at Lambda. It was, oh, the third or fourth meeting or so? And I was completely a baby ace at the time—I’d only been identifying as ace for about two months or so and clearly, I hadn’t really met anyone yet. But so, at Lambda—my university’s undergrad queer organization—we were doing this activity about identities and how they intersect and how stifling binaries are.
So, everyone’s jumping about when we get to the sexuality round and there’s actually a corner for aces, oh my god. I get there and realize I’m not alone. There’s another ace and we both spaz and introduce ourselves and we get to talking after the meeting. And I reference an essay involving sexual attraction and metaphorical elephants and then—
“I actually wrote that.”
More freaking out ensued. Because it would be my luck that when I was researching asexuality and reading blog posts upon blog posts that I’d find one I really liked. And I would then reference it to the person who wrote it. Like, I’m always doing this to myself. Always.
For the record? I thought this was adorableand hilarious at the time. <3
(Also I miss you too. How have you been?)
