So… why do we need a new word for cuddling, again?

I am not clear on why this is suddenly an issue.  In the past, our community has created words when there were none that described what we were trying to describe, not because we didn’t like the words we already had.  ”Squish” means something that other words don’t mean.  So does “queerplatonic”.  So does “zucchini” (much as I, personally, don’t like that one).  I mean, I sort of understand — I’d love to have a word for “wife” other than “wife”, for various reasons —  but I think to some extent, in order to be understood by the general population, we do have to kind of deal with the words that already exist for things.

Now, coming up with words for various types of cuddling, I am completely on board with that (remember ace-talk, anyone?).  But I don’t think it’s necessary or, well, wise to try and replace the word “cuddling.”  Thoughts?

iirc correctly the first person who brought it up had an issue with it sounding childish? maybe?

which, okay, I can understand how that would be frustrating, but making up synonyms to appear more mature feels like a bad fanfic approach

people will do what they want! but I’m gonna be honest, “tactile affection” vs “cuddling” isn’t… really that much… better

tactile —

yeah i will never use that

…ew, that’s an ugly substitution.

Exactly. And really, is it the fault of the word that it has childish connotations, or is it the fault of a society that...
