Musings of an Ist: "What do they even want?" →

I want to be able to seek treatment for mental illness while being reasonably assured that the doctor will not a) assert that my limited sexual experience means I can’t be certain of my sexual orientation b) suggest a causal link between my sexual orientation and my mental illness (in that order)…
I want to be able to decide whether or not to become a teacher...

So part of our orientation includes a session on being responsible researchers and IRBs and stuff and I’m just like, damnit, don’t you know that all of that is what ruined my childhood dreams of being a mad scientist?
IRBS ARE THE WORST OKAY. I miss working with flies, no one made me deal with IRBs then.
My orientation is on Wednesday and I am kind of dreading it, to be...
It’s not because it’s politically and morally correct. It’s right for Doctor...
– Moffat doesn’t believe in queer representation, he believes in using queer characters to appear ‘cheeky’ and ‘off-centered’!
I can’t at this moment put into words why that bothers me so much, but oohhh it does.
If anyone else wants to do it for me, be my guest.

“It has only been in the last twelve million years that life has existed on Earth, that sexual reproduction has flourished — a mere fraction of geological time. Now it is the predominant form of reproduction for species on Earth.”

On the bright side, the Meet-a-Bull pit bull walk I went on this morning went well. Admittedly, my dog pulls a lot on these walks—I think it’s the excitement of the other dogs, plus we were walking through her favorite off-leash park—but otherwise she does very very well. And our first agility lesson was yesterday and she did awesome! I mean, she was a little put off by the weave...
The continuing saga of AVEN

AVENites seem to have concluded that a) complaints off of AVEN, about AVEN, are not valid. Given that b) AVENites apparently dismiss complaints made about AVEN on AVEN, and that c) some AVENites leave AVEN too upset and triggered to go back to the site to complain, this all seems like a pretty effective way to avoid having to make any...

I really don’t understand.
I mean, I’m not saying no one’s ever gotten some heat for being uninterested in sex, or the “waiting until I fall in love” people, because obviously people poke fun and mock stuff like that.
But that’s kinda a long shot from harassment or oppression. Last time I…

Anonymous asked: I looked up the term allosexual, and eventually got to your posting. You use the term ace, and it seems clear that this is a new usage of the word that I'm unfamiliar with. I also figure that typing "ace" into google isn't really going to yield any useful results, so could you point me in the direction of a definition?
Speaking of which, Tribble and I finally finished Basic Manners at our training place and got cleared to start Agility 1.
I am so psyched about this I cannot even say. I’ve wanted to do this since I was sixteen and I finally get to start agility and it is going to be awesome!

I do not know, but I, too would watch the hell out of that show. The closest thing with a female host I can think of is about dog training.
Victoria, right? Off of “It’s me or the dog?” She’s brilllianntt. I love that show. @.@ Her methods are so much more accessible and allover better than...

The biggest problem I’ve faced in trying to talk about asexuality & rape culture is that, unless you’re doing it in a small group of friends, I haven’t found a decent place to do so….

How much should you trust an opinion on your creative, fiction writing from someone who generally hates reading and almost never reads anything but nonfiction autobiographies?
I would nod, smile, and ignore the specific criticism unless it’s something that dovetails with something I or other people have noticed. And then thank the person and back out of the conversation.
I...

Family Planning for Ambivalent Aces →
I actually try not to think too hard about whether I want children. For one thing, it’s not necessarily as simple as just deciding I want them one day and eventually arriving at that eventuality. Whether or not I decide that children are something I would like in my life, the reality remains that actually raising children would be extremely difficult for me to achieve.

A couple of weeks ago, Sarah Beth Brooks commented on the Question of the Week expressing a desire to hear more about aces in relationships, especially long-term ones. I agree that this is a topic that really hasn’t been covered much but should be covered more. I suspect it tends to get glossed over because relationships involve at least two people by definition, and the “Hey, can I write about...
