chibiwaja: 2shayster2: Ooh, potential asexuality arc on Girls With Slingshots? My interest is piqued. Seriously. C: I mean, I’ve expected it to be brought up officially for a while, so I’m really curious to see how the subject is handled. In other news, I just have feelings about Erin/Jamie, so I’m even more dying to know how this pans out. Oh man, I just got home and saw the comic,...

I am really, really not excited about doing this. Mostly because a) there is not enough time to present all the data, and b) I really want to have the data from the thing I’m doing now first. But since there is no way I will be coding 90 recordings by then, it’s not going to happen. Bleeeeeeh. At least it’s a presentation for the CV, I guess.

chibiwaja replied to your post: Oh man, they got to the bit where Nani’s trying to explain to Lilo that she has to give her up to foster care. I just want to give you all the hugs right now. ;~; I AM JUST SNIFFLING OVER HERE. ;__;  It’s hit the nadir, though! NANI AND STITCH ARE GOING INTO SPACE TO RESCUE LILO! IT WILL BE SORTED OUT IN THE END.  *wibbles*

rattyhugs: I wonder if we can get that lovely lady in the Miss Universe pageant back in, or generally petition against them by way of Internet Magic  does anyone know if there are any existing petitions about this? I feel like if we get enough outrage we can make at the very least a change in their rules. That’s the thing, though—she didn’t do anything against the rules!...

I'm holed up watching Lilo & Stitch tonight.
I have so many feelings about this movie. I mean, there’s the ohana/found-family ones, about Stitch learning to function in a family and about people never leaving each other behind, and that’s really meaningful to me. People caring about each other and sticking with each other, that’s important.  Mostly right now, though, I want to talk about my feelings about Nani. [[MORE]] ...

I have a brand, shiny new laptop.
And I’ve just spent the past two hours fiddling with it until it (mostly) fits the ridiculously specific way that I like my laptop to be, so I can pretend no change at all is happening la la la la la. The keyboard is still different and I keep accidentally clicking the mousepad without meaning to, but I will adjust to that if I keep using this machine and not the old dying one I have had...

Anonymous asked: Hi, I'm not sure if you're still looking for poems, but here are three I enjoy: A Confession by C. S. Lewis, For the Jim Crow Mexican Restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts Where My Cousin Esteban Was Forbidden to Wait Tables Because He Wears Dreadlocks by Martin Espada, and (mostly because it just /sounds cool/), To Brooklyn Bridge by Hart Crane.

emerald-ace replied to your post: I read Beauty Queens today. I love that book! I did a quote spam a while ago because it had so many wonderful lines. I know,  right? I kept glancing around to look for someone to share all the awesome lines with, only to be foiled because no one was home but the dog and he was very unlikely to appreciate them.

I think I’m going to do it on the evolution of sociality and what’s known about that, because I’m going to be working on courtship behavior for like the next five years and I may as well take this chance to work on something new.  I’m actually kind of excited about it. I should probably be working on the mRNA decay one for my seminar instead but that paper is going to suck...

The AVEN identity crisis
nextstepcake: (Drawn from another convo, but it’s a point that I think is interesting, and I think it would be interesting to hear people’s thoughts on this.) AVEN is for the most part an excellent site, in my view, but it does admittedly run into problems sometimes because it is trying to do too many things at once, and they can hamper each other. Now, for many years there wasn’t a way around...

I read Beauty Queens today.
After, uh, procrastinating on actually reading it (or about anything fiction) for some months. It was awesome. A++++++. Also, it made me feel so much better about losing two solid days of data today at work because I didn’t bother to check to see if my files had actually loaded to the computer from the camera before deleting them so I could record more courtships. Aaaaagh. *facepalm*

Misquote
asexylove: I’v been getting a bunch of e-mail recently about a quote that was attributed to me on Tumblr. As most of you have surmised, the quote is fake (I won’t bother linking to it), someone’s idea of a way to attack the AVEN admods. Since this is an issue that’s on people’s minds, I want to make it clear what I DO think. I think the admods are awesome. I also think that, like all elected...

littlepaperfrogs asked: (this is nextstepcake, btw:) Can I just say that I appreciate your very eloquent commentary on the aspects of AVENs moderation that you don't like? I feel like all to often people bash AVEN without actually having much experience with it, so it's nice to see someone explain specifically what it is that they aren't comfortable with. And it's nice to have a more calm and helpful...

Aromanticism: Not The Same As Touch Aversion
I am so, so sick of seeing otherwise good asexuality articles define aromanticism as “not wanting to be touched.” The current one that set this off includes the line “[aromantics] often shirk away from physical touch,” for fuck’s sake.
