And once again, someone uses a feminist space to say that sexless marriages are not, in fact, marriages.
I’m super-excited about this.
Also, that we’re all sexually traumatized and that we should totally see some kind of doctor about that, guys!
Joy.

The constant Christmas music has started up.
And, well, usually I don’t mind it so much—I actively like the older carols, actually, and I have tickets to a holiday choral concert on Thursday that I’m really excited about going to.
However. The ones on the radio and in every place of business I enter are invariably the most godawful, actively nauseating, overplayed piles of terrible that can be dug up.

A few thoughts regarding asexuality.
kinsey-x:
Asexual-identified people can shame others for engaging in sexual behavior, and this is not okay. This is not necessarily because they are asexual, and it does not mean that all asexual-identified people slut-shame. People of any sexual-orientation (gay, pan, bi, hetero, demi, omni, multi, etc.) can engage in slut-shaming, problematic, sexually oppressive behavior, and this does not...

I Have Feelings
greenchestnuts:
That is basically the same discussion I was having last night with Freibiergesicht, saying, “Look, if you’re hostile, we’re probably going to assume you’re another anti-ace troll, because we’ve gotten so many of them.” So, I do get it. I’m not trying to say that you did anything wrong, or that missvoltairine did anything wrong (whether or not you agree with her arguments). And...

tanicus:
Help? I’m looking for mentions of asexuality in scholarly discourse, particularly within feminism if possible. They don’t have to be accurate or positive portrayals either.
Andrew Hinderliter has a pretty comprehensive bibliography at his site Asexual Explorations. He’s usually good at getting all or most of the published academic material on asexuality at least cited there, if...
I Have Feelings
greenchestnuts:
I have encountered people like this. I don’t, of course, remember their names. By virtue of not being insulting and shout-y, they tend not to be as memorable.
I remembered missvoltairine from other discussions, and so it seemed likely that she wasn’t out to “get” asexuals, but just wanted to talk about the way in which something many aces do was hurting her. And that’s okay....

Yes! It’s the one that takes place at a SFF convention, the one with the Magids and the centaurs.

Deep Secret is a fantastic book! I love just about anything Diana Wynne Jones has ever written, but Deep Secret is definitely one of the better ones. Fun fact: Nick is based on Neil Gaiman, who was friends with Diana Wynne Jones.

I can’t engage openly when I don’t feel respect from both parties, and at this point I am primed to expect to be disrespected when people from outside the ace community express criticisms of it.

I Have Feelings
On the other hand, my thoughts on nuance have made me think some more about my emotions and their reactions. You know the constant fucking “your community is evil and bad bad bad and everything you do is bad” stuff from Tumblr? It makes me emotionally want to cling to “sexual supremacy” as a concept. It makes me, on an emotional level, want to start defining things as us...
~I'm so privileged because I'm asexual.~ No.
hernameishelen:
<_<
Why do people have such a hard time accepting intersectionality? Sexuality is such a multi-faceted issue. If I engage in a relationship with a man, I will be privileged over someone in a same-sex relationship. As an asexual, I am not privileged over alisexuals for being so ~chaste~ because values differ ridiculously in society, and a hell of a lot of social discourse...

And while we’re at it,
I like the “lack of sexual attraction = asexual” definition as a general rule but I kind of think an addendum of “if you think the label fits, just go with it” would be helpful in a lot of cases, especially since “sexual attraction” is so damn hard to define.
Because there are different ways to be physically attracted...

No, this doesn’t stand for your community. But, as I recall, one single person wrote this post. This is their emotional venting. Don’t conflate this with a movement, with someone trying to do activism for aromanticism. Yes, it’s problematic, but I have written posts with as much vehemence for romanticism.
I don’t support the original post, and I would actually point to a lot of...

Actually, in some ways my idea of what a dog is was shaped by Jack Russell Terriers, since I grew up with them and my family had them when I was tiny.
So instead of thinking of “dog” as “big, friendly, loyal, kind of dumb, sort of Laborador-ish,” I assumed “dog” meant “small, conniving, ridiculously opinionated, and worryingly intelligent.”

And now, a Jack Russell Terrier. Because I can.

In the West the idea of romance, and with it the notion that out there somewhere is a someone who is ‘the one’ person for you, seems to me to have become ingrained in the culture since the romantic movement in the late 18th/early 19th century.
